New Site Release


NEW YORK, NY,  May 7, 2001  ---  The web site for the CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index has been re-vamped to provide improved functionality and expanded analytical features according to Robert S. Sloan, Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse First Boston Tremont Index LLC, the joint venture company that launched  the original asset-weighted index in November 1999.  The re-engineered domain, designed by Financial Interactive, Inc., is live now.

 �New features on will facilitate a wider and deeper range of analytical opportunity for investors, investment advisors, managers and journalists as they compare investment styles and performance among traditional and alternative investments,� explained Mr. Sloan. �The mainstreaming of alternatives demands state of the art technology --  in particular to support the international investable index products that we have rolled-out.� The enhanced interface and a new preferred user area now provide features including:

  More performance analysis and comparisons with benchmarks;

              Cumulative/annualized performance tables;

              Cumulative performance charts for the index and sub-indices;

              Draw down analysis for the index and sub-indices;

              Correlation analysis for indices and benchmarks;

              Month, quarter and annual returns;

  Sub-index focused commentaries from hedge fund experts;

  Audio commentaries;

  Subscriptions to email alerts for data and commentary updates; and

  Dedicated area for fund managers (coming soon).

Easier data downloads now facilitate:

  Monthly returns & NAVs for the CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index and all  ­   nine sub-indices;

              Single step download of all indices.

 The CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index is comprised of 334 funds as of March 31, 2001.  The Index is constructed using a database of more than 2,600 hedge funds.  It includes both U.S. and offshore funds, but does not include funds of funds.  Funds are not excluded until they liquidate or fail to meet the financial reporting requirements, in order to minimize survivorship bias.  In order to qualify for inclusion in the universe, a fund must have US $10 million under management and an audited financial statement.  The Index is calculated on a monthly basis and adjusted for capitalization and return.  Funds are reselected on a quarterly basis.

The CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index, the only asset-weighted hedge fund benchmark, was designed to establish a standard for tracking and comparing hedge fund performance against other major asset classes, like the S&P 500, on a global basis.  Its web site provides interactive tools that allow users to manipulate the information and customize their research.
