NEW YORK, NY, September 15, 2000 --- The CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index is up 3.4% for August 2000, according to Robert S. Sloan, Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse First Boston Tremont Index LLC.
In August, markets bounced back strongly, providing a boost to long/short equity funds, but hurting the short sellers, said Mr. Sloan.
Markets are still very volatile, and there is increased demand for exposure to equities without having directional exposure to the market, added Nicola Meaden, Director of Tremont Advisers. The CSFB/Tremont Long/Short Equity Index is up 4.9% for August and up 6.0% for the year. The message to investors looks clear: be well diversified, choose managers with care, and limit your directional exposure to the market.
