The Credit Suisse/Tremont Blue Chip Investable Hedge Fund Index (“INVX”) down 0.94% net for the third quarter of 2007

Emerging Markets sector is the best performing strategy, up 4.43% net for the third quarter of 2007

New York, October 29, 2007 Credit Suisse Index Co., Inc released today its third quarter performance review for the Credit Suisse/Tremont Blue Chip Investable Hedge Fund Index (“INVX”), reporting that it finished the quarter down 0.94% net.  INVX was up 5.41% net year-to-date.

The Credit Suisse/Tremont family of hedge fund indices includes three separate indices:

1. The Hedge Fund Index (the “Broad Index”), an asset-weighted benchmark that measures hedge fund performance;

2. The Blue Chip Investable Index (“INVX”), an investable index comprised of 60 funds across the ten style-based sectors in the broad index that are open to investment; and

3. The Sector Invest Indices, which provide investment access to any of the ten style-based sectors in the broad index on an individual basis.

“We present our quarterly review analyzing the performance of the Credit Suisse/Tremont Blue Chip Investable Hedge Fund Index for the third quarter of 2007,” said Oliver Schupp, President of the Credit Suisse/Tremont Index Co, Inc.  He went on to say, “Hedge fund managers experienced a challenging third quarter largely due to the sub-prime market crisis, which resulted in only three of the ten hedge fund strategies producing positive quarterly results.  July and August proved to be difficult months due to falling global equity markets, increased volatility, and a flight to liquidity and quality in financial markets. However, the September rebound, in part triggered by the U.S. Federal Reserve’s interest rate cut, led to a quick turnaround for hedge funds.”

Highlights in the third quarter of 2007 include:

 The Credit Suisse/Tremont Blue Chip Investable Hedge Fund Index had competitive performance versus competing indices and global equity markets, specifically in the July and August downturn;

 INVX outperformed, on a year-to-date gross basis, several competing investable indices. INVX year-to-date for 2007 was up 6.07%, compared to the Hedge Fund Research HFRX Global Hedge Fund Index (“HFRX”), up 4.02% and the MSCI Hedge Index (“MSCI”) that was up 3.65%; and

 Emerging Markets, Fixed Income Arbitrage and Dedicated Short Bias were the top performing sectors of the quarter for INVX.

The complete third quarter performance review is available on the News and Press section of the website www.hedgeindex.com.
